Issues of Family Violence

"Family violence includes not only physical abuse but also psychological, emotional and sexual acts of violence within both traditional and non-traditional families.  A pastoral agent's primary concern must be for the safety of the victim(s).  No matter what the type of abuse, the cycle of violence requires active intervention before it can be broken."  (Taken from Roberta Morris, Ending Violence in Families:  a training program for pastoral care workers, National Clearinghouse on Family Violence, 1988.)  For information and support, contact Catholic Family Services or the Family Support Centre.
