Sr. Carol Borreson
Sr. Carol Borreson feels that her faith connection is what helps her to be happy, be well and to help her find her way through life. She nourishes her spirit by daily quiet time in prayer, but also finds comfort and connection in sharing prayer with others. She is thankful to have the opportunity to regularly receive the nourishment of the Eucharist and to participate with the faith community in the celebration of the mass. Whether she is taking part in liturgy or attending a session or retreat, Sr. Carol is aware of the many initiatives that provide for each of us in our faith journeys and she feels blessed to be part of this diocese.
Earlier in her nursing career, Sr. Carol experienced what she calls a 'transcendent moment'. Working at a hospital up north, she experienced the birth of a baby girl while mass was being said in the hospital chapel down the hallway. The very moment the baby was born, the words from the chapel were 'This is my body.' It became clear to her in that moment that there was no separation between the two events happening at the same time. She still recalls that sense of clarity and draws on it in her work or daily life as a source of hope, meaning and peace. That moment taught her about the sacredness of life and it remains for her a deep reminder of God's presence in the world and His loving, redeeming, life bringing ways.
Sr. Carol's hope is that the Church grows in concern not only with the liturgy and with those present in the church celebrations, but that we continue to grow in awareness of our Christian calling toward those not at our liturgical celebrations, including those on the outside, and those on the margins. A very direct connection with Sr.Carol's work in parish nurse ministry is the ability to reach out to people where they are and where their need is. Parish nurse ministry gives the church an additional avenue to be able to be present to people in a time of illness, suffering or need and to be a sign to them that the care of the community is with them. It is also an opportunity for the Church to work with people who are trying to make life different for themselves and their families and who are looking to find a deeper healing and restoration in their lives.
Sr. Carol also hopes that we can all continue to grow in faith and have opportunities to share that with one another, whether that be with the young or the old, the rich or the poor, male or female and with the many cultures, languages, traditions and diversity in which God created us. She feels that we all have gifts to contribute and that we can all be of service. Her wish is that we will visibly see the signs of that rich diversity in our church.
