SR Frequently Asked Questions

What is Scripture Resources?

Scripture resources are simply tools which have been gathered by the Scripture Resources Office and the Diocesan Resource Library. These include books, videos and programs which can be used to help individuals or groups who wish to find out more about the Word of God. For example, there are resources to help prepare for Sunday readings, topical studies for Advent and Lent, programs to provide overviews of the Bible, or to study individual books of the Bible or the Holy Land.

For whom are programs designed?

The Scriptures provide the foundation for our faith. As such, Scripture Resources offerings are designed for any adults who are interested in deepening their faith.
Programs are available for personal enrichment. There are also group programs available which have been used by such groups as ecumenical bible study groups, RCIA, CWL and K of C meetings, Mom's groups, young adult groups, home discussion groups, and for lector formation and catechist formation.

What can Scripture Resources do for me?

Participants have told us that small group discussions and study have helped them get together, start building a strong sense of community within their group and reach out into the larger community. It has also helped them grow in their faith and their prayer life and deepen their relationship with God.

Do you have to be an expert to use the program?

People don't need training to start this. All that is required is an interest. There's something for everybody.

Do we need an expert to lead the group?

No. The packages are complete. There is a study guide and leaders don't have to teach. The teaching is done by the video or book for the program. What you need is someone who can gather people and facilitate discussion.

How long are the programs?

Sessions range from 1.5 to 2 hours in length. Programs can range anywhere from a single session to programs from 1-10 weeks in length.

What kind of programs are available?

Two of the main programs are the Little Rock Series and the Focus on the Family Series. The Little Rock Series includes four essential elements in each study package. They are: personal study, personal and shared prayer, small group faith sharing, and a wrap-up lecture on video or audio.
Each package in The Focus on the Family Series includes a 20-minute video, taped on site in the Holy Land, as well as study guides for the Old Testament themes and new study guides which are being developed for the New Testament themes.
There are also special resources for different times of the liturgical calendar. These resources are revised and updated regularly.
A full listing of these resources is contained in this brochure.
